Don’t forget your shovel if you want to go to work . . . . .

On Friday 4th May we planted up the school garden. The pupils from Mrs. Mulvanney`s room planted parsley, turnips, cabbage plants and a selection of cottage garden flowers. Each child planted a sunflower seed in individual pots. These are now on the classroom windowsill. We eagerly await green shoots!! The pupils from Miss Corrigan`s room planted salad leaves, radishes, rocket and lettuce. The pupils from Ms Bruton`s room planted turnips, broccoli, beetroot and coriander. Thanks to the rain over the bank holiday weekend, we have green shoots in all the raised beds. We look forward to a good harvest in the autumn.

Nature Walk

We took advantage of the beautiful sunny weather to go for a nature walk up the boreen last week. Everything is starting to bud and sprout and we collected plants and branches for our nature table. We will go out again in the summer term, to see what else has popped up!

Goodbye Mr. O Fearghail

Thank you to the Parents Association who provided the refreshments. Mr. O Fearghail ( much to his shock and surprise!)  received a presentation from the Parents Association and the Boards of Management past and present.

Camogie Win

Congratulations to the senior girls who won the camogie blitz which was held in Street on Wednesday the 14th of March. we are very proud of you!

Football Blitz

A football blitz was held in the school last week. Tom keague presented the  Gráinne Etherson Memorial  Cup to the winning team, Ethan  Cleary, Shannon Carey, Jade Butler, Leah Brady Callum Fagan and Dylan Brady and keith Reynolds.

Goodbye Mr. O Fearghail!

Mr.  O Fearghail spent his last day with us on Friday the 16th of March.  Although we wish him all the very best in his new job, we are sad to see him go. He has achieved much in his 8 years in Coole, but perhaps he will be best remembered for his unceasing willingness to help,  his enthusiasm  and his good humour. He has been a wonderful leader, a great colleague and friend, and a fantastic teacher as his pupils both past and current will attest.

A Welcome to Our New Principal

We are also very pleased to welcome our new principal Ms. Emer Bruton, to our school.  She will be joining us on staff at the end of April and we are looking forward to working with her. Until then we are in the capable hands of Mrs. Mulvaney.

Mr. Ó Fearghail says goodbye!

Hi folks!

This is my last post on our website! Thanks for all your help and support!

Dear parents,

Back in 2003, I introduced myself in a letter. I’d like to say goodbye in  the same way.

Let me start by saying how moved I was by your presentation to me at the school céilí today. It’s never easy saying goodbye, and I certainly found it difficult. Thank you all, however, for the lovely send-off. I really appreciated it.

It’s time to say goodbye and thanks. There are so many people I have to thank! I hope I remember them all.

First of all, the staff. I know that you all appreciate the staff of Scoil Mhuire I have never worked with such a genuine, enthusiastic and talented group of people. The community is so lucky to have these individuals. Heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Mulvaney, Mrs. Mac Dermott, Ms. Corrigan, Martha, Pauline, Doreen and Helen. You have done so much for the community in Coole, and I know it’s appreciated.

The Boards of Management that I’ve worked with: you’ve always been great. I worked with three Boards of Management in my time in Coole, and every Board was fantastic; supportive and absolutely determined to ensure we had the best school possible. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. Thanks especially to Fr. Oliver for his help and support down the years.

The parents: I’ve always enjoyed the relationship I’ve had with the parents in Coole. Your concern for your children has always shone through as a defining feature. I hope that you will show my successor the same cooperation and friendliness as you showed to me. I’d like to say a special thank-you to the Parents’ Association Committee, who have given so generously of their time and energy. They really deserve your support.

The children (above all!) I’m really going to miss you. You’ve  been friendly, cheerful and respectful, and I know you’ll all do well in the future. It’s been an honour and a privilege teaching you, and if you’re ever passing Collinstown while I’m there, please drop in and say “Hi!”

To the people of Coole: This is a great community. You’ve all been so kind and helpful through the years. I’d like especially to mention Ned Flynn, Phil Brennan, Mel and Colette Dunleavy Mick Halton, Martin Burke and all the staff at Coole Hall. Thanks for everything you’ve done for the school.

I spent eight great years in Coole. Thanks for your help and support. I really enjoyed my time here.

World Book Day

World Book Day was celebrated in Scoil Mhuire Coole on Wednesday 7th of March. Teachers and SNA’s  read extracts from their favourite children’s books. The children’s rapt attention showed that  classic tales never go out of fashion!

A book swap was held in each of the classrooms where children were invited to bring a book they had read. These books were put into a lucky dip and the children pulled out a book.

A book quiz was held in the senior room. Children in the middle room made book marks.

The Shared Paired reading started between 5th and 6th and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th class.  It got off to a great start and the children were thoroughly engaged throughout. This will continue on a twice weekly basis until Easter

A classic never goes out of date!
